What are the characteristics of copper-pyrite ore?

This type of ore contains copper sulfide and iron sulfide minerals, as well as recoverable magnetite. Its characteristics are: generally small reserves and low grade. The copper mineral is mainly chalcopyrite, containing pyrite, pyrrhotite, and magnetite.

There are two flotation schemes for this ore: one is magnetic separation followed by flotation, and the other is flotation followed by magnetic separation. Production practice has shown that the magnetic separation followed by flotation method has more problems (mainly because pyrrhotite will enter the magnetite concentrate during magnetic separation), so the flotation followed by magnetic separation method is often used. First, the sulfide ore is floated out, and then magnetite is magnetically separated from the tailings. It should be noted that when floating sulfide ore, the flotation of iron sulfide must be strengthened to remove as much pyrrhotite as possible; otherwise, during the magnetic separation of magnetite, pyrrhotite will mix into the iron concentrate, affecting the quality of the iron concentrate. If pyrrhotite is mixed with iron concentrate, the iron concentrate must be desulfurized if necessary (by using reverse flotation to remove the pyrrhotite).
