Flotation recovery is an important index for measuring the effectiveness of mineral processing. During production, the recovery rate sometimes drops suddenly; even if the equipment is still operating normally, it may not necessarily achieve the expected results.

The common causes mainly include the following aspects.

1. Changes in grinding fineness
If the grinding fineness is insufficient, some valuable minerals may not be fully liberated; over-grinding may also affect the flotation performance.

2. Changes in ore properties
Differences in grade, mineral composition, and floatability among different batches of ore will affect the stability of the flotation process.

3. Unstable reagent addition
Changes in the dosage or addition ratio of reagents such as collectors and frothers may affect the attachment, frothing, and separation performance of minerals.

4. Fluctuations in flotation process parameters
Changes in parameters such as pulp density, liquid level, air input, pulp flow rate, and pH value may all affect the flotation recovery rate.

5. Changes in operating and equipment conditions
Abnormal equipment operation, changes in froth state, pipeline blockages, or manual operating adjustments may all cause instability in the flotation process.

How can automation help stabilize the recovery rate?
Through the PLC/DCS system, monitoring and controlling key parameters such as pulp liquid level, pH value, reagent flow rate, and air input can reduce parameter fluctuations, and trend records can help analyze the causes of recovery rate changes.

However, it should be noted that automation cannot independently determine the optimal flotation process; adjustments must be made in combination with ore properties, assay results, and on-site process experience.
