Operation of Flotation Machine

Operation of Флотационная машина

12.8.1 Start and Stop

Подробности следующие:

(1) Starting. Before starting, the equipment must be thoroughly inspected. According to the requirements of the production process flow, check whether the valves on each pipeline are correctly closed, whether the water pipes and slurry pipes are unobstructed, whether the oil levels in the reducers and oil tanks at various parts are sufficient, whether the oil quality is good, whether the oil paths are clear, and whether the foam scrapers are in good condition. Based on the ore properties, make preparations for proper reagent addition. Then manually turn each machine one by one. Start the machines in sequence from the tail end according to the slurry flow direction. First open the clean water pipe, then feed the ore.

(2) Stopping. During normal stopping, the flotation machine must be unloaded. To avoid blocking the feed pipe, first open the clean water pipe, discharge the slurry, and then stop the machine. In case of sudden stoppage due to an accident, the slurry may not need to be discharged for a short period. However, if the accident affects operation for a longer time, the slurry in the tank shall be drained.

12.8.2 Operation

After the flotation machine has started and is running normally, attention shall be paid to maintaining a stable slurry surface and properly controlling the amount of foam scraped off to ensure effective foam removal. Take care to prevent blockage of slurry pipelines, avoid overflow of the tank, and prevent the foam layer from becoming turbulent. Frequently check the equipment operating conditions, paying attention to the following:

(1) The heating condition of the motor and the vertical shaft rolling bearings. The bearing temperature rise shall generally not exceed 80 °C, the motor temperature rise shall generally not exceed 70 °C, and the motor operating current shall not exceed the rated current.

(2) The tension of the drive belts shall be appropriate; slipping is not allowed, as it would affect the air suction volume of the flotation machine and deteriorate the slurry aeration process. If severe wear of the belts is found, belts of the same length shall be selected and replaced as a set promptly.

(3) Check the sealing of the oil seal rubber ring. Pay special attention to preventing lubricating grease in the bearing housing from leaking into the slurry, as this would affect the normal operation of the flotation process.

(4) Each lubrication point shall have sufficient grease.

(5) No other foreign matter shall be present in the flotation machine tank.

(6) Check whether the aeration pipe is unobstructed.

12.8.3 Troubleshooting During Operation

Due to long-term operation, normal wear, and fatigue of the machine body itself, these are important causes of faults. Failure to address them in time can cause accidents and affect normal production to varying degrees. Common faults include:

(1) During operation, the impact and vibration of the machine itself may sometimes cause the cover plate or stator screws to become loose and fall off, affecting the normal operation of the flotation machine. Therefore, during maintenance and installation, the machine body must be kept stable, and attention shall be paid to inspection before starting.

(2) The tank bottom protector plate serves to protect the tank bottom. Sometimes, due to the strong agitation of the impeller, which accelerates the internal circulation of the slurry, the protector plate may be pried up, suddenly increasing the motor load and possibly causing an accident. Therefore, during operation, pay attention to adjusting the valves to maintain a stable slurry surface so that the flotation machine operates normally.

(3) Due to wear and corrosion from long-term operation, the clearance between the impeller and the cover plate increases, reducing the air suction volume. The solution is regular maintenance or replacement. If abnormal conditions occur during production operation, such as localized turbulence or instability of the foam layer, inspection and adjustment shall be carried out to bring the clearance within the allowable range.
