There are thousands of old‑type XJ flotation machines in China. These old machines suffer from disadvantages such as low air suction capacity, poor air dispersion, slow flotation speed, and an unstable froth layer. Therefore, they need to be retrofitted. By using the existing cell tank, electric motor and its frame, scraper and its drive components, feed box, tailings box, froth launder, etc. of the XJ flotation machine, and adopting new‑type (Wemco‑type) main shaft assembly, impeller and stator as the aeration agitator, together with a dispersion cover, adjusting ring, false bottom, etc., an improved flotation machine has been developed. This overcomes the disadvantages such as the tendency of aeration capacity to decay, which otherwise affects separation performance. The XJ flotation machine is still used as the first cell (suction cell), while its improved version is used as the subsequent direct‑flow cell, thus forming the XJZ flotation machine. This machine is particularly suitable for upgrading and retrofitting the existing XJ flotation machines in small‑ and medium‑sized concentrators in China. The structure after retrofitting is shown in Figure 12‑9, and its technical parameters are listed in Table 12‑8.
