Operation of Spiral Classifier

Operation of Spiral Classifier

Start and Stop

The following provisions shall be complied with:

(1) Pre-start inspection:

  1. Check whether the couplings, belts, and open gear guards are firm and reliable.
  2. Check whether the oil level in the reducer and the grease for the open gears are sufficient.
  3. Check the oil supply condition of the lubricating devices for each bearing.
  4. Check whether the bolts and keys on all components are loose.
  5. Check whether the belt tension is appropriate.
  6. Check whether the large and small spiral blades are loose, detached, or excessively worn.
  7. Check whether the electrical switches and limit switches are in good condition, sensitive, and reliable.

(2) Starting: Only after the inspection is confirmed to be correct and communication has been made with the upstream and downstream processes may the equipment be started. The sequence is as follows:

  1. It is strictly forbidden to start the machine when the spiral blades are buried by ore sand. If buried, the lifting device may be used to raise the spiral assembly, and after starting, it may be slowly lowered to the specified position.
  2. Switch on the power supply and press the start button.
  3. Watch for any abnormal changes in all parts.
  4. Open and adjust the water valve.

(3) Stopping: Upon receiving the stop notice, follow the stopping sequence below:

  1. Stop the feed from the upstream process.
  2. Stop the water supply.
  3. After all the ore sand in the tank has been discharged, press the stop button to stop the machine.
  4. After stopping, raise the spiral assembly out of the sand surface to prevent it from becoming stuck by sedimentation.

In case of an unannounced power outage or a fault, press the stop button immediately, stop the water supply, and after normal power is restored, clean out the ore sand and raise the spiral.

Operation

During operation, the following parts shall be inspected frequently, and the results shall be recorded in detail in the equipment operation log.

(1) Check that the temperature of each bearing does not exceed 70 °C.
(2) Check that each lubrication point is clean and that the oil supply condition is normal.
(3) Check whether any bolts on various components are loose.
(4) Check for any abnormal vibration or noise in various parts.
(5) Check whether the readings of the voltmeter, ammeter, and other instruments show any abnormal changes and whether they are within the normal range.
(6) Constantly observe the sand return amount and adjust it in time to prevent blockage of the sand return port.
(7) The motor temperature rise shall not exceed 60 °C; check for any abnormal vibration, noise, or odor.

Faults and Troubleshooting Methods During Operation

Faults and troubleshooting methods during operation of the spiral classifier are shown in Table 11-5.
